Dr. Pamela Paul & Harmony photo pro-life marchI recently took my granddaughter Harmony, age 12, to the 50th annual March for Life and a historical first since Roe vs. Wade was overturned from a federal level on June 24, 2022. I wanted Harmony to catch the spirit of a new era that her generation was experiencing. I wanted to activate within her an understanding of current events, educate her on the issues of abortion and current legislation, and help her to find her voice.

I wanted to pour into my granddaughter the truth of God’s standard for the sanctity of life. I wanted her to identify with the virtues and character of pro-life warriors who fight for this standard in our culture today.

Life is sacred and a fulfillment of God’s purpose here on earth. Our nation was founded on the principles that upheld this standard for life. Our forefathers declared in a covenant agreement with God and the citizens of our nation that we are “endowed with an inalienable right to life.” This foundational principle is not open for debate. God ordained this truth. He revealed His purpose for life to the prophet Jeremiah, “Before I formed you in the womb, I knew you;” (Jeremiah 1:5). We also see God’s hand in the creation of life through the words of the psalmist: “For You formed my inward parts; You covered me in my mother’s womb… I will praise You, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made; My frame was not hidden from You when I was made in secret… Your eyes saw my substance, being yet unformed.” (Read all of this beautiful passage here).

I wanted my granddaughter to know that protecting life is our duty before God. Harmony-DC ProLife March

Equally important is reproductive health for the life of the mother as well. For an unwanted pregnancy, bringing death to life created in the womb is like sacrificing our babies on the altar of Molech, just as the Israelites did when they turned their hearts away from God. Rather, we need to consider our options. This is where pregnancy care centers, such as New Life Solutions, can help to provide counseling and medical care that helps to save the life of the child and the well-being of the mother. This is where adoption agencies can match a newborn with a couple seeking to raise and love a child as their own. This is where education from parents, church leaders, and educators can teach our children of God’s design for sexual relations in the context of marriage, or at the very least, responsible sexual behavior for those who don’t want to follow God’s ways and engage in sexual activity without the commitment of marriage.

Our modern culture offers plenty of alternatives to pregnancy through birth control measures. Few need to get pregnant if they are not ready to raise a child. Touting the legalization of abortion up until the birth, or thereafter, as reproductive health care is not what I want to teach my granddaughter.

Washington DC Pro-Life March photo As we engaged in the March for Life that cold windy day in D.C., my granddaughter and I were touched by the energy, passions, and convictions of the 250,000 participants marching that day from the national mall through the streets of Congress, the White House, and the Supreme Court. Throughout the walk, men, women, young adults, teens, and children offered up prayers for the unborn, prayers for our nation, and prayers to protect our rights to life, liberty and freedom. The clarion call was unified. Protect Life. It was riveting to be a part of this historic day and to share it with my girl, Harmony.

The following day, Harmony and I participated in the Pro-Life Students Life Summit, headed by Kristen Hawkins. It was exciting to join with over 2000 students in attendance as we listened to keynote speakers and participated in breakout sessions, all designed to further the cause for the unborn. The students were educated about the corporate giants of the abortion industry, raising awareness of the $600 million in tax payer dollars given in support of Planned Parenthood, who in return, contributed $50 million back to the democratic elections to hold on to their profits from legalized abortion.

Washington DC Pro-Life March photoThe demand for the killing of babies in the womb, or born live from a botched abortion, is so great that the new dilemma facing our nation now is the unleashing of abortion on demand through the distribution of deadly pills. These abortion pharmaceuticals are taken with the intent to dispel the fetus growing in the womb of a young woman. The aftereffects of the annihilation of the baby growing in the womb is simply flushed into our waste water systems which are not capable of adequately filtering through this deadly debris in our water supply. I wanted my granddaughter to recognize the harm that has become imminent with the promotion of abortion pills.

Students at the summit were also equipped to advocate for the unborn with love and compassion. They were taught to have conversations with others that build bridges of empathy and understanding. Relational connections bring about solutions that offer hope and peace to all and saves lives. I wanted my granddaughter to learn how to walk this vitriol path with others with love, care, and support.

I took my granddaughter to this event because I believe our youth need to be educated and aware of the abortion argument and the pro-life movement to protect life. I wanted to have an impact on Harmony’s moral and character development as she lives in a post-roe generation, where the fight for abortion rights has not ended, but has in fact, heated up. Without our next generation carrying the torch for the sanctity of life into our future, things could radically change. Kristen Hawkins is leading this advocacy with her Students for Life PhotoorganizationStudents for Life of America. So far, they have infiltrated over 1300 high school and college campuses with the message for life and education for truth. But Students for life efforts go beyond simply education. They have a Standing with You initiative to offer support services to pregnant young women with everything from babysitting help to free diapers so they can finish school once the child is born. Alternative options exist for the unborn.

I wanted my granddaughter to know.

It was a valuable and memorable weekend to share with Harmony. My prayers were that her heart would be touched, and she would find her voice in this pro-life movement.

And so, she did.

While sitting in the airport, she scratched out her reflections from the weekend into a song, straight from her heart, raw and unedited.

A Song of Lament, by Harmony Paul, age 12.
January 22, 2023

How did we get here?
How did we change into this corrupt world?
Unthinkable evil: the inhuman and wicked things we do to the living.
How did good become wrong and wrong become right?

How has love become fake, and faith become fake, and the killing of innocent lives become right?
I need your help.
I need your strength, along this road of evilness.
I’ll fight till I die.
Till right becomes right.
Till love is true, and faith is real.

Help help help me.
Please stop stop stop killing babies.
Help help help help me.
To stop stop stop killing babies.

The darkness of this thing
The evil inside me and you
Is growing in me and you.
The dark truth about abortion.
Stop being so cruel.
This world is serving the devil.
Please help me.

Help help help stop this please.
Save save save the babies.
Listen to our voices.
Keep faith alive.

Help help help help me.
Stop stop stop abusing.
Help help help help me.

I’m gonna win this fight if it’s the last thing in my life.
I’m not losing my faith.
I believe in Jesus.
My faith is not fake.
My life is real.

I’m not losing my strength.
I’m gonna fight with him.
He’s with me till the end.
He is my Jesus.

Help help help oh help me.
Please stop stop stop killing babies.
Help help help help me
I’m gonna win this fight if it’s the last thing till I die.
Help help help help me.
Please stop stop stop abusing.
Help help help help me.
I’m gonna win this fight.
Oh, I’m gonna win this fight.
Oooh I’m gonna win this I fight if it’s the last thing on my mind.

Yours Truly,
Dr. Pamela
